New York Rangers Acquire Massimo Rizzo in Trade

New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced the team has acquired forward Massimo Rizzo and a 2026 fifth-round pick from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Adam Edstrom.

What happened?

The trade brings a skilled forward to the Rangers, with Rizzo having played in 14 games for the Providence Bruins and Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League last season.

He tallied two goals and three assists for five points in the AHL and also skated in 29 games for the Reading Royals of the ECHL, recording six goals and 16 assists for 22 points.

Why it matters for New York Rangers

The acquisition of Rizzo adds depth to the Rangers' roster, with the 25-year-old forward having established career highs in goals, assists, and points in the 2024-25 season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

As of June 30, 2026, the Rangers stand 16th in the Eastern Conference with a 34-39 record, on a W1 streak.

What comes next?

Rizzo's experience playing in the AHL and ECHL will be valuable to the Rangers, who are looking to improve their standing in the Eastern Conference.

The 5-10, 175-pound forward played three years of hockey at the University of Denver, collecting 39 goals and 87 assists for 126 points in 107 collegiate games.

He led all Denver skaters in assists and points during the 2022-23 season, serving as an alternate captain in 2023-24.

Rizzo was originally selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the seventh round, 216th overall, of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rangers will look to integrate Rizzo into their lineup, with the forward's skills and experience expected to make an impact on the team's performance.
